Jamie Dixon: 10-Point Shell Drill for Man-to-Man Defense (DVD) Overviews

with Jamie Dixon,University of Pittsburgh Head Coach;2004 Big East Coach of the YearTeaching players where to be in every defensive situation on the floor is a Jamie Dixon trademark. His 10-point shell drill covers every possible defensive scenario and anchors the Pitt defense in games. As the ball is slowly reversed around the perimeter, Dixon instructs players on the proper position and technique at each spot. When the ball is on the wing, there is automatic penetration to the baseline. This forces the weak side defense to be in a help position and adjust toward the ball to keep the ball out of the paint. By moving players down to the corners, the focus is on middle penetration. Stance, vision and moving in the direction of the pass are cornerstones of good man-to-man defense. Defending the ball screen has become mandatory for all teams. Dixon explains the on ball coverage that minimizes risk but is aggressive. Other sets defended are the UCLA screen set, flex and flare screen set. The last component is doubling the post and doubling the on ball screen. Dixon teaches specific technique on a hard, aggressive double team. Dixon illustrates that almost every situation faced in a game can be prepared for in practice with the 10-point shell drill. 61 minutes. 2007.

For a dominant basketball player, must be solid on both sides of the ball – offense and defense. Many young players are always good striker who completely neglect to sharpen his defensive skills focused. If you are not good for the defense of their time will be short. This article focuses on specific tips and exercises, players can use to help them become a better defensive player.

Positioning

When you save a player, how closeshould they? Is it better to say to improve their lives, or pushing? In my opinion, it is always best to push the offensive player. Get on it, and let them know you are there. Some coaches suggest that an arms length distance, but this is too much for me. When closed and are under pressure, the offense will have a hard time always around, or even a distant shot. To learn about her husband before he dribbled and force him not to go wherever he wants. Of course it may seem athink at first, but you will learn. Suppose we make adjustments if necessary.

View the midsection

I've heard a million times and I fully agree with him. Always supervise the central section of a player, because it was not false. Often, a player can pretend with eyes or shoulders or even the world. When the middle part, was observed to be fine. The second thing is to concentrate on his position. If you choose the right attitude of the nose should be above the chesthigh. If you are in the eyes then are too high, unless he is a player short. Going to lower the pressure of the ball and see the belly.

Sitting on the wall

Sitting on the wall is one of the best exercises for conditioning your body a good defensive game. I hate them. This time, I hate them because I try today. The only reason I suggest it is because of how useful it can be. For legs really ready to play a good solid defensive pressure. You can also use it while the basketball games. If you have not, this is before it rather easy to explain. Go sit on a wall and not against them, as if sitting in a chair. You should have nothing whatsoever to support only their feet. Time to see how long you can go and build from there. Do not stop when things get tough, because that's when you see how well it will be determined.

Close-Outs

Close-out is used whento come to defend a player who is a good piece away from you, too. For example, saving a piano player in the post goes. Turn around and grab the players and try to force him to make a mistake. Instead, the player is taken out of the pianist. This forces the player to run with the ball. If you continue to run it, it is easy to overcome by you. You're out of position. But near him will be better able to stop it. I player coachrun midway in the offensive player and then stops in a position to challenge a shot or a shot to his feet apart, but a hand in the air. If the player shoots, you're in a good position to jump and shoot competition. If the player tries to happen next Dodge car can slow or stop. Practice this exercise without mercy by aligning shooter that runs the defense have on them. Enter the offense a chance to shoot the ball and try toto dribble.
